Location: I.
About:
Jungle Retreat is a family run resort; a
mixture of wilderness, serenity and
comfort and appreciated by travelers
from across the world.
We, the Mathias family, have lived on a
plantation for many years in close
proximity to the jungles of Tamil Nadu.
Jungle Retreat was born of our family's
close bond with the wilderness. Jungle
Retreat is located at the foothills of
the Nilgiris, skirting the Mudumalai
Wildlife Sanctuary & National Park in
Tamil Nadu.
We've come a long way since the
beginnings 14 years ago. We offer
accommodation in country style cottages
with sprawling private verandahs that
afford spectacular views of receding
mountains and tropical jungles.
Come to Jungle Retreat. Partake in what
we have to offer. Come with no
aspirations and find yourself swapping
photographs and stories amongst staff
and guests as each day goes by. Immerse
yourself in our hospitality, either at
the Retreat or out on a trek or safari
and at the end of each day relax amongst
friends you have just made. You will
begin to appreciate we are not a hotel
!!!.

How to get there:

247km from Jungle Retreat. Possibly the
most comfortable way of traveling into
the sanctuary is in a cab, which we can
organise for you. It takes about 5 hours
to get here from Bangalore. Bus: Board a
bus to Ooty with a ticket to Theppakadu
and hop off at Mudumalai wildlife
Reception Centre, Theppakadu. The bus
should reach Theppakadu in about 6 hours
time. From Theppakadu you could either
hire a Jeep or call Jungle Retreat from
the Wildlife Department Office or the
'Youth Hostel'. We will arrange
transport for you. train: There are many
passenger trains shuttling between
Bangalore & Mysore. Check local
departure timings. The most convenient
one would be the Shatabdi that leaves
Bangalore at around 11:00am and reaches
Mysore by 1:00pm
From Mysore: Mysore is 107km from
Jungle Retreat. We organize Cabs from
Mysore at cost. Approximate driving time
from Mysore to Jungle Retreat is 2 hrs.
By Bus: Get onto an Ooty-bound bus and
get off at the Mudumalai Wildlife
Reception Centre, Theppakadu. From
Theppakadu you could hire a jeep or
board a Swaraj Mazda, which would drop
you at Masinagudi Village. At Masinagudi
you could hire a local jeep or call
Jungle Retreat for pickup at cost.
From Ooty: Ooty is 35km from
Jungle Retreat. Driving route: Get on to
the Ooty - Mysore Road, turn right about
one km after HPF (at the village) onto
the Kalahatti (Segur Ghat) road which is
also the Ooty Mysore 'shortcut'.
Approximately 5km after you pass
Chamanatha Village, turn left onto the
Tarmac Road. You are now 6 Km from
Jungle Retreat. One word of caution –
This winding road has 36 hairpin bends
and steepest in South India. DRIVE WITH
CARE. Approximate driving time from Ooty:
45 min to one hour. By Bus: Get onto a
Masinagudi bound bus and get down at
Masinagudi and you could hire a local
