Panchchuli Base Camp


SEASON : April to June and September – October
Goes up the Darma valley near the borders of Nepal and Tibet, an area of outstanding beauty and importance for anthropologists . The people are migratory by nature and tough living in a remote Himalayan valley . Dar is the road head and take off point for this trek. Dar to Panchchuli base camp is a pleasant walk of 28 km. .As the local people keep going up and down the valley , eating shops are available at most of the village.

Day 1st Kathgodam - Dar (2200 m.)


Day 2nd Dar - Sela (2499 m.) . The trail goes along the right bank of the river through terraced fields , than turns left and climb steeply along a sheer cliff where the trek is chiseled in a rock wall . After 3 km. the path enters forest to reach Sela.


Day 3rd Sela - Baling (3100 m.) . From Sela descend a path at a moderate gradient to Nagling in 2h . This small village has a few eating shop . Onward to Baling in another 3h . This village is perched high up and is a strenuous climbs of 1h. after crossing a stream by a wooden bridge .


Day 4th Baling - Duktu (3261 m.) . After Baling the valley opens and the slops ease off to enter Duktu after 2h. from Baling . Duktu is a twin village . An interesting procedure in this village is that they bury their provision such as potatoes, onions, cereals etc. under the ground before they migrate to plains for winter and dig them up when they return in summer .


Day 5th Duktu - Panchchuli base and back to Duktu


Day 6th Duktu - Nagling


Day 7th Nagling - Orthing


Day 8th Orthing - Dar Dar - Dharchula


Day 9th Dharchula - Kathgodam.
