Pindari Glacier


SEASON : April to June and September – October


Under the south east exterior of the Nanda Devi sanctuary , one of the most popular and easily accessible trek in Kumaon Himalaya. The trail passes through thick forest along the Pinder river valley and comes close to the peaks of Nanda Khat, Nanda Kot and Nanda Bhanar.

Day 1st Kathgodam - Loharkhet (1760 m.)


Day 2nd Loharkhet - Dhakuri (2621 m.) Climb northwest over steep slopes for 4-5 hour to a ridge gap called Dhakuri Pass (2902 m.) panoramic view of the Nanda Devi group,steeply down pass for 2 km. to Dhakuri.


Day 3rd Dhakuri - Dwali (2576 m.) The trail turns northeast and descends gradually for 5 km. along a wooded slop to Khati village. From these follow closely the east bank of the pinder river for 6 km. ,than cross a wooden bridge and wind up above the west side in dence forest for 5 km. ,finally recrossing the river to reach Dwali .


Day 4th Dwali - Phurkia (3270 m.) - Glacier (3657 m.) and back to Phurkia . Phurkia is only 5 km. ahead by a very pleasant gradual walk through pine forest and glades with wild flowers. After Phurkia the valley widens and there is hardly any vegetation . Zero point , from where Glacier can be viewed is some 3 km. North of Phurkia.

Day 5th Phurkia - Khati (2210 m.)


Day 6th Khati - Dhakuri


Day 7th Dhakuri - Loharkhet

Loharkhet - Kathgodam.
