SEASON : April to June and September – October
A side valley of the Pinder. It’s wild scenic beauty surpasses that of the Pinder , coiling through an enchanting theatre of mountains dominated by the gigantic Maiktoli wall to the northwest and by the Tharkot ridge further west. At the back of the valley is the eponymous pass (5520 m.) ,leading north into the Nanda Devi sanctuary.
Day 1st Kathgodam - Loharkhet (1760 m.)
Day 2nd Loharkhet - Dhakuri (2621 m.) Climb northwest over steep slopes for 4-5 hour to a ridge gap called Dhakuri Pass (2902 m.) panoramic view of the Nanda Devi group,steeply down pass for 2 km. to Dhakuri.
Day 3rd Dhakuri - Jatoli (2438 m.) . Descend north west for 1 h 30 through fields to reach Wachham (2027 m.) situated beside the Pindar river. Now a very steep ascent north into the Sunderdhunga Gad leads to Jatoli.
Day 4th Jatoli - Kathlia (2800 m.) . Ascend through thick forest and undergrowth, the height gained is not much but there are numerous up’s and down’s along the way . Kathalia is a flat area .
Day 5th Kathalia - Sunderdhunga - Kathalia . The path Follows the west side of river for most of the way .Sunderdhunga is a grazing ground strewn with many splendid boulders, literally means beautiful rocks,which give the valley it’s name.
Day 6th Kathalia - Jatoli
Day 7th Jatoli - Dhakuri
Day 8th Dhakuri - Loharkhet
Loharkhet - Kathgodam .
